US President-elect Barack Obama could damage the open-skies agreement which proposes to liberalise aviation between Europe and the US. Phase one of OpenSkies allowed Continental and other US airlines into Heathrow, and British Airways to set up its OpenSkies subsidiary operating flights between Amsterdam, New York and Paris.

One year on from a historical move to London St Pancras and Eurostar has reported huge growth in demand from the UK regions. Eurostar has confirmed that the amount of travellers from north London have increased by up to 150% since the move, whilst travellers from the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North East have also experienced phenomenal growth with figures over 100%.

Discount supermarket chain Aldi is to launch a travel website which it claims will ‘turn the online travel industry on its head’. The supermarket, which currently has 400 stores across the UK and another 7,000 worldwide, will launch the website www.alditravel.co.uk on early January with the motto ‘A break you’ll remember at a price you’ll love’.
