cheap flightsAer Lingus has rejected a new £708 billion takeover bid from rival carrier Ryanair.

Accusing the low cost airline of attempting to capitalise on ‘current market fears’ and of significantly undervaluing its business, an Aer Lingus statement confirmed its desire to turn a profit in 2008 and remain independent. Despite already being 30 percent owned by Ryanair, the Irish flag carrier is adamant that it has a "vibrant independent future".

Aer Lingus has also revealed that it will also resume flights between Heathrow and Shannon on March 29th. The popular route was previously dropped after 60 years following the opening of a new hub in Belfast but is to be reinstated with two daily flights next year.
