BAA successful in bias claim - Tue. 22 Dec. 2009
Airport owners BAA yesterday won its appeal against a previous ruling to sell a number of its airports. The competition Commission had previously ordered BAA to sell Gatwick and Stansted airports, as well as either Glasgow or Edinburgh.
MAG Withdraw Gatwick Airport Bid - Fri. 17 Jul. 2009
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has pulled out of the race for London Gatwick after talks broke down over the valuation of the airport. It has been reported that MAG is refusing to increase its initial bid of £1.38 billion, which is currently some £100 million short of airport owner BAA’s valuation.
BAA Traffic Declines During May - Wed. 10 Jun. 2009
BAA has reported an airport traffic decline of 7.3 % year on year during the month of May. Airport owner BAA currently operates seven British airports including Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton Glasgow and Edinburgh. Although BAA admits that demand is currently low, the results are said to be in line with trends since December.
Airport owner BAA has reported that passenger numbers fell at its seven UK airports to 8.95 million last month, accounting for a 12.5% year on year decline.
BAA Receive Bids For Gatwick - Tue. 20 Jan. 2009
Airport owner BAA has received up to six bids for Gatwick Airport from potential suitors. The Manchester Airports Group and the owners of London City Airport are amongst the possible buyers. The Manchester Airports Group currently operates the airports of Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth.

Stansted Given Expansion Go-Ahead - Thu. 09 Oct. 2008
A planned expansion of Stansted Airport has been given the green light by the Government. Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon has given the go-ahead for the airport to accommodate an additional 10 million passengers. The governments backing has angered environmentalists and overruled the local authority, Uttlesford District Council, who originally vetoed the plan.
BAA Confirm Gatwick For Sale - Wed. 17 Sep. 2008
BAA has announced that Gatwick Airport is up for sale after admitting that a forced break-up of its assets by the Competition Commission was inevitable. However, the airport owner is determined to keep hold of Stansted.
Airport owner BAA has been told to sell two of its London airports by the competition commission. In a report on the state of the UK’s airports, BAA was heavily criticised for problems at each of its seven airports, particularly the delays and poor standards experienced at Heathrow which ‘shamed the nation’ during the opening of Terminal 5 earlier this year.
