BAA Receive Bids For Gatwick
Tuesday, 20 January 2009
Airport owner BAA has received up to six bids for Gatwick Airport from potential suitors. The Manchester Airports Group and the owners of London City Airport are amongst the possible buyers. The Manchester Airports Group currently operates the airports of Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth.
The FT has reported that a fee of approximately £2 billion had been expected by BAA and its owners Ferrovial. However, current bids are believed to be closer to the region of £1.7 billion. Other notable bids have come from the owners or part-owners of Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Sydney, Athens, Tirana and Budapest airports.
Following a report from the Competition Commission last year, BAA has put Gatwick on the market. It was suggested that BAA’s monopoly of London airports should be broken up in the interests of customers.
