BMI Sale Causes 50% Surge In Bookings
Bmibaby has reported that its decision to cut fares by up to 40% to boost pre-Christmas sales has paid dividends after announcing a 50% increase in bookings. The sale applied to all flights booked in the time period from December 9th, to October 2009 and not only boosted sales but apparently caused a flurry of additional visitors to the site with a 150% increase.
Bmibaby MD Crawford Rix said that the airline was following the same methods applied recently by many high street retailers: “The amount of flights that we are selling shows that if the price is right, consumers will not delay booking,
"Despite the credit crunch, people are not willing to give up their holidays, especially with discounts of up to 40% off flights."
Bmi have also announced that passengers are able to send text messages on their flights between Heathrow and Moscow. BMI is just one of number of airlines to trial the system. Phone calls however, will still be barred. Peter Spencer, managing director of Bmi said:
“The trial will help us address some of the social and etiquette issues regarding the use of mobile communications devices in-flight and provide valuable customer feedback which will be at the heart of deciding how the service is developed and rolled out across the remainder of our mid haul fleet.”
