Dusit International reveals new Maldives resort

Monday, 16 January 2012
newsDusit International has announced its first enterprise in the Indian Ocean - Dusit Thani Maldives.

The island is a landmark addition to the company’s global brand, surrounded by a stunning 360 degree coral reef and turquoise lagoon. It is due to open in early 2012.

The resort is located on Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, around 35 minutes by sea-plane from the Maldivian capital, Male.

The island’s encircling living house reef is a snorkeler’s paradise; an underwater world waiting to be explored just metres from the beach.

As well as being the new home of Dusit Thani Maldives, Baa Atoll is also a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

General Manager of Dusit Thani Maldives, Andres Rubio, states: “Our entire operation is geared toward achieving a carbon-neutral programme,”

“We are excited to be one of the leaders in sustainable resort development in the Maldives.”
Dusit Thani Maldives is launching as a local pioneer in green energy solutions, with the goal of living in harmony with Maldivian biodiversity.

In order to guarantee the resort has minimal impact on the surrounding environment, Dusit has invested in cutting edge engineering for efficiency.

Techniques used include solar thermal heating in the back of the house, while the front of the house uses heat recovery pumps – all metered for power consumption.

The island has an on-site water-bottling factory that produces still and sparkling mineralized water to reduce one-way plastics.

And the hotel laundry is heated by a diesel steam boiler designed to use minimal electricity. Green initiatives are in place throughout the resort.
Biodegradables are used for landscaping, fertilising and composting.
