Tuesday, 25 November 2008
EasyJet is to submit an application for a judicial review into the recent fee increases at Gatwick Airport. The High Court recently approved landing fee increases at Gatwick which the budget airline claims have risen by 21%, from £5.61 to £6.79 in 2008.
EasyJet is now calling for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to be investigated over a regulatory price review, claiming that regulations set out by the Competition Commission have not been followed. The low cost airline also expressed fears that fees could be set to increase by another 51% within the next five years.
EasyJet is a low cost airline founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou in 1995. Based at London Luton Airport, it is one of the largest low-fare airlines in Europe, employing 3,875 employees.
