easyJet, the low cost airline has launched a new site with an aim to redefine traditional holidays by enabling users to combine flights from easyJet's routes with 10,000 hotels across Europe to create their own holiday. easyJet Chief Executive Andy Harrison stated that the new offering confines traditional European package holidays to the “dustbin of history”.
The easyJet holidays site also uses Microsoft Virtual Earth in order to pinpoint the exact location of hotels found in search results. easyJet holidays are protected by the Travel Trust Association and backed up by a price promise guarantee. The company claims to offer "100% refund protection" in the event of flight or hotel cancellations, as well as the promise that consumers will not find cheaper prices on the web.
Harrison said: “Package holidays offered through travel agents and tour operators have developed a deserved reputation for everything that is bad about travel – fixed-term holidays in shabby hotels allocated on arrival with flights at the most inconvenient times on some of Europe’s least-known airlines. No wonder they are a thing of the past…today really does mark the end of the European ‘package holiday’ as we knew it.” Similar launches are planned throughout Europe in Germany, France, Holland, Spain and Italy.
