EasyJet Unaffected By Swine Flu
EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou has said that the low cost airline has yet to suffer any negative effects from the recent outbreak of swine flu.
In 2003, the SARS virus caused a sharp downturn in demand for air travel and although the swine flu virus has yet to affect the industry in the same way, many experts are forecasting the possibility of a similar outcome this time around.
The virus, which Stelios described as coming ‘completely out of left field’, is said to be at too early a stage to start predicting any affects it may have on business. However, commenting on the decision that passengers currently face – on whether to fly or not - the easyJet founder did say that it was ‘about fear’ rather than fact, referring to the wide ranging media reports surrounding the virus.
