Eurostar Increases Passengers Year On Year
Friday, 29 January 2010
Eurostar carried 9.2 million travellers throughout 2009, which accounted for a 1.2% increase year on year.
Despite the setback of trading during a financial slump, Eurostar has claimed that ticket sales for 2009 totalled a record £675.5 million, an increase of 1.7% on 2008 sales.
The figures also include the incident in which almost 2,000 people were trapped in the Channel Tunnel overnight as a combination of “fluffy” snow and freezing temperatures caused Eurostar trains to break down.
Services to Brussels saw the biggest jump in growth with a 6% increase in passengers, whilst sales from leisure travellers alone led to a 15.6% increase.
