Eurostar carried 9.2 million travellers throughout 2009, which accounted for a 1.2% increase year on year.
Eurotunnel says its terminal is at "saturation point" following three days of disruptions which have left thousands of passengers stranded and delayed. Day trip bookings are not currently being honoured, with Eurotunnel citing a "massive backlog" of passengers since Friday.
Passengers booking flights with Virgin Atlantic now have the added option of being able to book Eurostar tickets at the same time. The move is the first of its kind and means that passengers can book Eurostar tickets for onward high-speed journeys between London, Paris and Brussels.
Eurostar has added a £3 charge for all bookings made by credit card. Despite adding the charge, Eurostar claims that it is still significantly lower than those enforced by any of its airline competitors.
Eurostar has reported that approximately 70% of its passengers are now taking advantage of the ‘Print Anywhere’ ticket service which was launched earlier in the year.
A sharp decline in business class customers has caused a 6% decrease in Eurostar passenger numbers. Eurostar carried 4.34 million people in the first half of the year, compared to the 4.63 million passengers during the same period of 2008.
Eurostar today launches its summer campaign offering £59 return fares to Europe. The new campaign known as ‘Little Break, Big Difference’ offers £59 return fares to Paris, Brussels and any Belgian station from London St Pancras, Ashford International or Ebbsfleet International.
Eurostar has announced that it is to resume service of its normal timetable as of February 23rd 2009. From this date, services are to operate at full speed with journey times returning to those experienced before the Channel Tunnel fire in September 2008.
Following a revised timetable during the Christmas period, Eurostar is to continue its planned engineering works and operate an amended timetable right through to mid January.
There are a number of days over the Christmas and New Year period that Eurostar will be operating a revised timetable due to planned engineering work. Anyone booked to travel on the 25th, 26th, 30th December or 1st January should be aware that their Eurostar train time may be affected, regardless of when the booking was made.
