"This is an important announcement for us. We knew this destination was one that our customers have been calling for.

"New York is one of those cities that everyone must see at least once in a lifetime. It has so many iconic images and sightseeing opportunities, culture that is second-to-none, the world's top stores and boutiques and a fantastic array of restaurants, bars and clubs."

Jet2 will initially launch 4 services with the possibility of more depending on the success rate. Factors such as the Open Skies Treaty and the strength of the pound against the dollar have all contributed to the cheap flights provider launching the new route. The flights to New York's Newark airport are expected to be popular and fares are available from £579.98 return, including taxes.
