The Kuoni Group has today acquired a 32% holding in Chinese tour operator Et-China as it attempts to expand into the fast-growing Chinese travel market. The purchase price amounts to GBP 5.3 million (around CHF 9.2 million).
The Kuoni Group has reported that its tour operating business is down by 23% year on year. The decline of 23% in Swiss franc terms, or 12% in local currency was confirmed in an AGM statement. Despite the loss, Kuoni claims that the figures are an improvement on the previous month.
The Kuoni Group has continued its acquisition strategy in the specialist-travel sector by acquiring Swiss-based tour operator Unique Travel GmbH for an undisclosed amount. Unique Travel specialises in holidays to Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro.
Kuoni Holidays UK has witnessed its third quarter profits decrease by almost 44% to £3.6 million, down from £6.5 million in 2006.
Kuoni has acquired a French-based travel company with immediate effect ensuring the operators expansion into the premium and specialist travel segments.
