Majorca Travellers Advised To Continue As Normal
Following the bomb attack in Majorca on Sunday, travellers are advised to continue with their holiday plans as normal. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has updated its travel advice for Spain but the level of advice has not been changed.
Thousands of tourists were evacuated in Majorca before a series of explosions yesterday. Three bombs were planted in the holiday resort before a woman from Basque separatists Eta phoned to warn of the explosions. The first bomb exploded in the toilet of an Italian restaurant, whilst another device was found in a second restaurant and was detonated by bomb disposal experts. The third exploded later near Palma's main square.
There were no casualties in any of the blasts but thousands of frightened locals had to be evacuated from the target areas. Basque separatist group Eta has admitted responsibility for a bomb attack in Majorca last month which killed two Civil Guard officers.
Britons worried about terrorist activity on Majorca can contact a new free information hotline set up by the Spanish authorities. Those already in Spain or Majorca can dial 900 900 365, while the number for those calling from the UK is 0034 900 900 365.
