MyTravel To Merge With Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook HolidaysThe proposed merger between MyTravel and Thomas Cook is expected to be completed by July, so long as it is cleared by the European commission. This step forward has come about as the EC have announced approval for German Thomas Cook's prospective German owner KarstadtQuelle to acquire the 50% of the travel group it does not already own from Lufthansa. 

This transaction, according to Thomas Cook is scheduled to go ahead on April 2. MyTravel have also confirmed that the merger should be completed by either the end of June or the first half of July.

The proposed merger promises a high value increase for KarstadtQuelle shareholders and key positions in the new company, which will be named as Thomas Cook Group plc. It has been reported that this new international retail and tourism group will meet forecasted sales of €21 billion.

The deal was announced prior to the merger of the TUI & First Choice link-up which is scheduled for later this year. Thomas Cook has been around for 160 years and could be thought of as the most well known name in the holiday travel industry, supplying a wide range of holidays to a variety of world-wide locations. directline-holidays.co.uk are a supplier of Thomas Cook holidays.
