Ryanair Calls For Fast-Tracked Stansted Sale
Ryanair have called for a speedier sale of Stansted airport following what it calls an ‘abysmal’ performance in May.
In results released last week, London Stansted was the lowest performing BAA airport, experiencing an 18.5% decline in traffic, something which had been attributed to capacity cuts from financially hit carriers.
The Competition Commission has recently instructed BAA to sell both Gatwick and Stansted airports in addition to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara called for the “fast-tracking of its sale in order to tackle the airport’s plummeting traffic” and stated that it “is the only way to protect London tourism and jobs”.
Mr McNamara also called for the government to scrap the ‘insane’ Air Passenger Duty which he described as a “£10 tourist tax”.
