Ryanair Considering Cutting Out Baggage Handlers
Ryanair is considering asking their passengers to carry their luggage all the way to the plane, cutting out the need for baggage handlers.
Chief Executive Michael O'Leary said: "We would say to passengers ... take your own bag down through airport security, leave it at the bottom of the steps, we put it in the hold and on arrival we deliver it to the aircraft steps and you take it with you".
However, a spokesman for Ryanair, the largest low cost airline in Europe confirmed that the carrier would only go ahead with the idea if it did not jeopardize their quick turnaround.
It is not the first time that the airline has identified unique ways of cutting costs. Earlier this year, Michael O’Leary was said to be considering charging passenger to use the toilet during flights, whilst in October this year, Ryanair is set to eliminate check-in desks altogether, saving up to €40 million per annum.
