Ryanair Works With OFT To Improve Website Clarity

search for cheap flightsRyanair has improved the clarity of the information featured on its website following consultations with the Office of Fair Trading. Last year, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) referred Ryanair to the OFT, after accusing the budget airline of ‘persistently misleading consumers’.

The OFT is now satisfied that the low cost carrier now provides clearer information on its Price Guarantee and can sufficiently qualify statements about offering the cheapest fares. Changes to the Ryanair website include making the terms and conditions for promotional offers more visible, as well as making links to optional services and charges more prominent.

Mike Hayley, consumer markets director of the OFT said: “We welcome Ryanair’s action which we believe will make it easier for consumers to access the information they need when choosing low cost flights.’

Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said: “We were happy to make the minor adjustments recommended by the OFT to improve our website and advertising,

“Ryanair is pleased with the OFT’s conclusion of this case which confirms Ryanair’s belief that there was no substance to the ASA’s original referral, and we welcome the fact that the OFT has dismissed the ASA’s request ‘to consider taking action against the budget airline Ryanair’.”

The ASA also welcomed an ending to the saga and applauded ‘the progress that has been made'.

In other news, Ryanair has always been known for offering cheap flights, but they could soon be offering free flights for those who are willing to stand up. Ryanair boos Michael O’Leary said: "We might take out the last five or six rows and say to passengers 'Do you want to stand up? If you do you can travel for free". However, the non-seating plan is subject to approval by the Irish Aviation Authority.
