Sky Europe files for bankruptcy
Low cost airline Sky Europe has suspended all its flights with immediate effect following the news that it has filed for bankruptcy. The Slovakia-based airline operated cheap flights from Luton and Manchester airports.
A message on the budget airline’s website reports that “SkyEurope has suspended its sales and operations immediately”. However, the Slovak carrier has warned that customers who have paid directly to SkyEurope by means other than a credit card (e.g. bank transfer, cash) that “a refund may not be possible.” It is understood that credit card bookings on flights costing over £100 will be refunded but for any transactions under this amount it will not be possible.
Sky Europe encountered difficulties when it was forced to cancel flights from a number of airports this week due to unpaid debts. Furthermore, the collapse is said to have left thousands of passengers stranded abroad.
