The Spanish region of Andalucía has seen its visitor numbers from Britain drop by 18% in the first quarter of 2009. The results were announced at the recent ‘Loving Andalucía British Tourist Trade Forum’ which took place in Malaga.
The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has predicted that the decline in Spanish holidays will only be a short term situation. AITO confirmed that an unhealthy exchange rate is causing Spanish tourism to suffer and that it is likely that 'for a while', Spain will be viewed as too expensive by British holidaymakers.
