Spirit of France to be delivered to P&O Ferries

P&O Ferries has announced that the €180 million ship Spirit of France will be delivered to the company during a handover ceremony at the STX Europe shipyard in Rauma, Finland.The event is due to take place on Tuesday January 24th.
Spirit of France will then begin its 1,400 mile voyage to Dover under the command of senior master Captain Steve Johnson.
The vessel will arrive in Dover on Saturday January 28th and will complete berthing trials in both Dover and Calais before entering service on the premier Channel crossing prior to mid-February.
The Spirit of France and sister ship Spirit of Britain, which began service last year, are the largest ferries ever built for the Dover Strait, at more than 47,000 gross tons and 213 metres in length.
Their combined cost of €360 million is the biggest investment P&O Ferries have ever made.
P&O Ferries runs 22 ships on routes to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Belgium, France and Holland, carrying over 9 million passengers, 1.5 million cars and 2 million trucks a year.
