Strike to Hit Eurostar in Belgium
Wednesday, 21 December 2011
Thursday 22nd December will see much of Belgium paralysed by a nationwide general strike, resulting in the closure of the Belgian rail network for the day.As such, Eurostar will not be able to run services to and from Brussels from 22:00 CET on 21st December to 22:00 on 22nd December.
On top of this, all other domestic and international connecting services to and from Brussels will be unable to operate.
For the duration of the strike, Eurostar services to and from Brussels will commence and terminate at Lille Europe station.
There will be a partial replacement coach service operating between Lille and Brussels midi train stations in both directions to transport Eurostar travellers affected by the strike.
Demand for these coaches is expected to be extremely high, and with limited seats available customers can expect both stations to be very busy.
Eurostar are recommending that passengers due to travel on a Eurostar service either to or from Brussels on December 22nd (or on the 19:04 train leaving from London on December 21st) exchange their tickets to travel either before or after December 22nd if possible.
Eurostar will allow exchanges free of charge regardless of ticket conditions but subject to availability on alternative services.
