XL Leisure Group Plc including XL Airways, Aspire Holidays, Freedom Flights, The Really Great Holiday Company, Medlife Hotels, Travel City Flights and Kosmar Villa Holidays are all in administration. It is advisable for all passengers who have yet to commence their travel to make alternative arrangements as detailed below.
The XL Leisure Group, Britain’s third biggest package tour operator sunk into administration this morning after a long period of financial uncertainty. XL, who failed in recent weeks to secure further funding, has blamed rising fuel prices and the economic downturn for their demise.
XL Leisure Group, the UK’s third largest holiday company is said to be in the middle of urgent talks with its banks after reports suggested that a refinancing deal has been stalled.
XL Airways has cancelled its entire winter Caribbean programme, stating that rising fuel prices had wiped out their margins on the routes. As of November, XL is to cease operating its chartered flights from Gatwick to Grenada, Tobago, St Kitts, Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia.
XL Airways is to finishing operating its service from London Gatwick and Knock on September 2nd. At present, the UK airline operates the service six times weekly, ubt this will cease due to ‘changing market conditions’.
