Zoom airlines start low cost London-New York flights.

Zoom airlines has commenced low-cost flights from Gatwick to New York JFK with nearly 10,000 advanced bookings. The airline claims to be offering savings of between 42% and 71% on fares that are already offered by competitors. Flights are being marketed as an ‘affordable alternative’ to established airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Delta, with prices starting at £129 for a one way flight, including taxes.
Zoom co-owner John Boyle, who recently sold his stake in CV Travel to Kuoni holidays, has stated: “People have been forced to pay outrageously high fares to fly between London and New York for too long…The price charged by BA, Virgin and the American carriers on the New York route are virtually inseparable and it is high time that passengers had a better deal. We are offering savings of up to 70% on these flights.”
Zoom Airlines was started in May, 2002. Based in Canada, Zoom Airlines was created to fill an emerging opportunity in the Canadian leisure travel market. Zoom now operates a combination of scheduled and charter services to destinations including the U.K., France and the Caribbean. Zoom Airlines Ltd, a UK sister company based at Gatwick, started in 2006 and includes routes from the UK to the USA and Bermuda.
