Low cost airline easyJet has unveiled a number of new routes for 2009, including nine new routes from the UK. Within a matter of months easyJet will operate cheap flights to new destinations from Newcastle, Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester airports with flights starting from £22.99 including tax.
A report from Travelsupermarket.com suggests that the average number of holidays people are planning has increased from 1.5 in 2008, to 1.8 in 2009. According to report from Travelsupermarket.com, almost half of all Brits are currently reviewing their 2009 holiday plans, with an expected 18% looking for cheaper holidays whilst 11% are planning just one short break.

Aer Lingus has rejected a new £708 billion takeover bid from rival carrier Ryanair. Airport owner BAA is to be forced to sell both Stansted and Gatwick airports after failing to persuade the Competition Commission that it should be allowed to sell just one of its London hubs.
Bmibaby has reported that its decision to cut fares by up to 40% to boost pre-Christmas sales has paid dividends after announcing a 50% increase in bookings. The sale applied to all flights booked in the time period from December 9th, to October 2009 and not only boosted sales but apparently caused a flurry of additional visitors to the site with a 150% increase.
Virgin Atlantic has confirmed its interest in acquiring low cost airline Bmi and has held talks with its majority owner Lufthansa over the future of the British carrier.
